A LEGENDS Nightclub employee, Gift Nzira (23), landed himself in trouble after assaulting a police officer, Constable Consider Mavhiki for arresting his co-worker who was being charged with assault.

Nzira denied the allegations.

Presiding over the matter last week was Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura, while Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Mr Karombe said on March 24 at around 10pm, the complainant was on duty at ZRP Chikanga in the charge office where she received a report of assault from Blessing Chitaka who had been assaulted by Tafadzwa Mudzimwa at Legends Nightclub.

Cst Mavhiki attended the scene in the company of Cst Machingauta and on arrival they arrested the accused person.

While on their way to ZRP Chikanga, they met Nzira who told Mudzimwa not to go to the police station and said that police details were not allowed to arrest a person on duty.

Nzira punched Cst Mavhiki three times on the face. With the help of Csts Machingauta, Mutimudye and Chitaka they managed to arrest Nzira.

Mudzimwa, however, managed to escape.

The complainant sustained bruises on the face and a painful right eye.

Nzira was remanded out of custody on $70 bail to April 10.
