THE National Gallery of Zimbabwe has kick-started the year with various new initiatives meant to improve its brand and broaden interactive approach with stakeholders and other Government departments.

In a first of its kind, the NGZ will as from end of this month, engage police, churches, stakeholders such as National Aids Council, leading cellular network provider Econet as well as other Government departments such as the health, labour and education departments, in monthly conversations.

They will this week kick-start the discussions with churches on a topical issue of conflict management in workplaces.

“Stakeholders presence is critical as we aim to create a platform where artists and artistes, business people, and civil society discuss topical issues. This will enable us to learn about the society we live in,” said NGZ regional manager (Mutare), Ms Elizabeth Muusha.

The initiative, Ms Muusha said, will augment the role played by the Shaurai poetry-music sessions launched on April 13 in marketing visual and performing arts. The session is a platform where visual artists meet and share ideas on the second Friday of everymonth.

The NGZ will in February be expected to hold a Mining Open Call exhibition where they will discuss the Chiadzwa diamond rush. They will hold the Mr and Miss Africa cultural pageant on Africa Day as well as an Independence Open Call exhibition in April under the discussion “Maborn-free – Free Spirits”.

In May, they will hold a Gallery show dubbed:“Tavatose – “A Caring Society”. The potentially intriguing Manicaland Show of Arts (MANISA) will be held in July while the Day of the Girl Child open exhibition is expected to be held in October.

The Open Call Exhibition Field Day will be held in November while the Permanent Collection, which is another Gallery Exhibition, is scheduled for December.
