LONG and short term effects of girl child sexual abuse such as low self-esteem, mental health problems, post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal thoughts among others are tackled in a emotional and captivating potentially-explosive blockbuster movie titled “Eagles in this hut” set to be released next month.

The movie – directed by Moses Matanda – who is the brains behind series’ “Dead End” and Zimbabwe Greatest Talent shown on ZTV, as well as the yet-to-be-released Chinhoyi 7, was shot in rural and urban setting in Zaka in Masvingo Province, Mutare and Harare.

The veteran actor and producer, Matanda presented a three-minute trailer to the Weekender recently, saying he intended to educate parents and guardians about devastating effects of sexual abuse on women and the girl child. The sexually and emotionally abused girl child’s role is being played by Florenco Masekesa a young and passionate actress from Masvingo.

Budding Mutare-based actress Rhonia Chimbetete also features in the movie.

“Eagles in the Hut” is a movie to watch because of the storyline that portrays sexual and verbal abuse that happens to young girls from relatives, particularly parents. Florenco plays the role of Tariro an abused child who ends up committing heinous crime because of the effects of abuse,” said Matanda.

The movie was sponsored by Rudo Mudavanhu and Moses Matanda. It will be premiered in theatres across the world and online TV called Nhaka.

Moses Matanda was born in Honde Valley. He is an international actor who studied acting at KD studios in Dallas, Texas and acting on camera and voice at Seneca College at York University in Toronto Canada. He appeared on “Call of duty” movie and TV series, “The real prison breaks”.

He also studied Film arts production at Toronto Media and Film College in the United States of America. He said Mutare was awash with exciting and talented actors and actresses who only need support.

“Mutare has a lot of hidden treasures in acting. There is abundant talent that only needs to be tapped. Rhonia will definitely go far. She acted her heart out proving that Mutare has it all. To all aspiring actors and actresses out there, please note that acting is a passion. Do not do it for money. Money will come later. Love it, live it and believe that things will come to pass. Just know the basic skills of acting, throwing a punch, receiving a punch and salvage imaginations,” added Matanda.
