WARRIORS skipper, Willard Katsande, will soon put pen to paper by signing a new four-year contract with ABSA Premiership giants, Kaizer Chiefs, Post Sport can reveal. With discipline and dedication as the hallmark of his career, the Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain, who is still basking in the glory of leading the Zimbabwe national team to a third Africa Cup of Nations appearance, is set to extend his stay at Amakhosi, a team he joined six years ago after an impressive stint at Ajax Cape Town.

In an interview from his Naturena base this week, Katsande told Post Sport that he would be signing a new four-year contract with Amakhosi around mid-next month.

The 30-year-old anchorman said he was happy with his stay at Kaizer Chiefs although he was still looking forward to ending his career overseas.

“I will be signing a new four-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs mid-December. It has been an amazing six years here at Amakhosi and it has really become my second home.

“Yes, I still harbour the ambition of playing in an overseas league and if it comes I will not hesitate to grab the chance. However, at the moment my focus is on Chiefs and help them win more trophies,” said the soft spoken Warriors captain.

Katsande’s Cinderella story started with humble beginnings at CPMZ Feruka before he joined Highway FC in the Eastern Region Division One league until he moved to Harare outfit, Gunners FC.

He moved to the ABSA Premiership where he joined Ajax Cape Town FC before being lured to one of South Africa’s most respected teams — Kaizer Chiefs, where he has playing up until to date.

With Amakhosi, Katsande, who has worked under respected coaches in the mould of Steve Barker, Vladmir Vermozovic and now Steve Khomela, has won the Nedbank Cup and the MTN Cup.

During his eventful six-year stint at Chiefs, he has been voted the player of the season twice and most improved player at Chiefs as well as being runner-up in the ABSA Premiership players player of the year and PSL players of the year awards.

In the previous 2015-2016 ABSA Premiership season in January, Katsande was named the player of the month apart from other four player of the month awards he has won before while playing for Chiefs.
