THE current holder of the Zimbabwe spinner of the year title, Rusell ‘Cici Boy’ Chirindo will be performing never seen before spinning stunts tomorrow (Saturday) at the Mutare burnouts at Raylton Sports Club.

Dubbed the: ‘burnouts extravaganza’, the Harare-based Ice Motors crew, one of the pioneering and leading spinning crews in the country will be once again performing at Raylton after their last show in February last year.

The reigning Zimbabwean spinning champion, Cici Boy, clinched the title at the 4th edition of the annual Zimbabwe Auto Festival held in Harare in August last year.

There will be four Ice Motors spinners, including man-of-the-moment Cici Boy, Boss Ice, Fuzzy L and Lance. The fifth spinner will be Mutare spinner, Clyde Jani popularly known as C Jay of the Mutare No Lose spinning team.

“We have a lot of entertaining spinning stunts lined up for the Mutare burnouts including a new stunt never seen before called the ‘Spinning on the passenger side,’ where I will be spinning from the passenger’s side.

Our usual crowd rousing and daring stunts like the run-over, suicide death slide , ghost rider and spider stunts will also all be performed greater than before on the day, to entertain our Mutare fans and show them why we are the best in the business,” said Cici Boy in an interview last Friday.

Burnouts, which are fast growing in popularity in the country as an extreme entertainment motor sport, are usually orchestrated by professional drivers and stuntmen in a safely barricaded area.

The spinners perform various daring and entertaining stunts showing off their dexterity behind the steering wheel.

Ice Motors spokesperson, Kuziwa ‘Boss Ice’ Nkomo, urged people to come in their numbers and expect an epic show.

He added that as Ice Motors their aspiration this year was to get spinning recognised by the Sports and Recreation Commission as a professional entertainment motor sport just like motocross and drag racing.

“We will soon start a spinning school where we will teach stunt manoeuvring, car controlling and spinning to aspiring professional spinners,” said Boss Ice.

Boss Ice said unlike before, they would be using powerful 2.9 litre stroked engines on their traditional BMW E30 Gusheshe rides this year.

“We also have a special performance lined up, spinning with a Ford Cotina V8 and performing daredevil stunts from gears one to four. This will definitely be a not to miss show,” he said.

Ice Motors were the first spinning crew to perform burnouts in Mutare in 2015.

Cici Boy who has been spinning for three years now, said in Zimbabwe the number of spinning crews was growing, with eight spinning teams so far, though most teams are based in Harare and Bulawayo.

Ice Motors have also performed burnouts beyond the borders. Last year they performed at Mahem Stadium in South Africa and had a street-show in Lusaka, Zambia.

Boss Ice added that to attest the growth in popularity of the sport, burnouts arenas were now being constructed countrywide.

He said already in Harare and Mutare (Motoring Club) there were now functional burnouts arenas, while in Kwekwe and Bulawayo construction is underway.

Boss Ice said to add to the burnouts jamboree, there would be a pre-party tonight (Friday) and after party tomorrow night at BarCode Nightclub at Raylton Sports Club.

“To set the mood for the burnouts we will have a pre-party tonight at BarCode then the shutdown after party tomorrow night. This will allow us the opportunity to mix and mingle with Mutare revellers and really feel the famous eastern highlands hospitality.

Prominent BarCode resident DJs, Styles and Cash will be on the turntables throughout the burnouts. There will also come be dance groups to entertain in between breaks,” said Boss Ice.
