THE Manicaland Karate Association has elected a new leadership expected to revive the sport in the province, with Richard Chitaka being voted the chairman.

Well-known Mutare karataker, Charles ‘Master Charler’ Sambare, who is the new public relations officer is the new look MKA executive, confirmed the developments.

“We had our election and we put into office a new leadership. We hope this will go a long way in reviving the sport in the province. It is always disheartening to note that we have the talent, but we do not have the structures that help facilitate the nurturing of abundant talent,” said Sambare.

Chitaka will lead a new executive that has Francis Maponga as the vice-chairman, while Bezel Paradzai is the secretary.

Thomas Njarideni is the vice-secretary.

The treasurer’s post went to Grayton Chibonga, while battle hardened Mutare karataker, Allen Makufeni is the technical director.

Two committee members — Simomondo Mali and Fari Chitsa were also roped into the executive.

Chitaka vowed to work with all progressive stakeholders for the improvement of the sport in Manicaland in particular and in Zimbabwe at large.

“I am happy that we have finally come together and decided to take our beloved sport to greater levels. I take this as a challenge and call to all progressive stakeholders in karate to work hard and realise the improvement of the sport in Manicaland in particular and in Zimbabwe at large.

“I am actually happy that we have already started seeing the support from stakeholders and this is the reason we want to thank Patrick Chitaka who provided us with the venue to have these elections as well as Richard Chiwandire who pledged to assist us as we get down to serious business,” he said.
