VARIOUS customers last week walked away with live cows among other prizes from National Foods’ Ma-Hat-Ma Meaty Christmas Promotion that has been running countrywide since October 15.

The promotion which was launched at Belgravia Sports Club in Harare as a way of appreciating and interacting with customers during the festive season is expected to run up to December 24.

Some 100 cattle were put in place to be won by 100 customers countrywide.

Among the prizes were also sheep, goats, chickens and t-shirts.

To enter the competition, customers have to buy participating products like chicken pieces, Red Seal salt, Rosetta Pasta, Maize meal packs, the New Red Seal Usavi Isitshebo Relish Mix and many more.

After buying any of the products, buyers would receive a scratch card from the in-store promoters which they would scratch to determine if they have won.

Redemption of prizes is done at selected stores or on Meaty Christmas Road show trucks where customers bring the scratch card and receipt as proof of their purchase, or on Ma-Hat-Ma Red Seal Facebook page.

Unlike last year, this year’s promotion holds a Happy Hour, which is a bonus for the promotion whereby within that hour, chances are high that a cow may be won in store.

Three lucky customers however walked home with live cows from Ok Chipinge, Ok Mutare and Choppies Mutare supermarkets last Friday and Saturday.

The three were respectively, Nyasha Sithole, Mercy Mutedi and John Mwareya.

The beasts were valued between $500 and $600 each.

Ms Angela Mpala, National Foods group marketing executive said: “Cows are a symbol of wealth in the African culture and they also represent appreciation and celebration.

“The Ma-Hat-Ma Meaty Christmas Promotion took this into consideration and created an innovative, yet culturally relevant promotion idea of giving away live beasts to its loyal customers.

“The borrowed culture of celebrating Christmas was therefore revolutionarised by the promotion as the festive season included traditional customs like giving away beasts.

“It is a good thing that our winners are walking away ecstatic due to fantastic prizes on offer. Most customers are appreciating this promotion. It was run last year and its resounding success has brought it back bigger and better,” she said.

One of the winners at OK Mutare, Mrs Mutedi expressed her joy during the handover of her beast on Saturday.

“It feels good when we are being recognised as customers of National Foods products. Such promotions create a good relationship between producers and their consumers. I am grateful as one of the winners because this is something that I have never been expecting,” said Mrs Mutedi.
