Gimboki parents who were robbed of their month old baby after a tragic kombi accident in August, have received a confession letter from the person who claims to have “robbed” them of their baby.

Mollin Makoni(34) said in an interview that on  October 9, 2016, early in the morning, she discovered the napkin that they had buried baby Beauty in on their door step.

On top of the napkin was a letter that claimed that the unidentified writer of the letter had feasted on the baby.

Makoni said she identified the napkin as the one they had buried her daughter in because it had all its edge strands pulled off as is the custom.

“I knew the napkin because we removed some strands from all its four corners as it is our custom. When a baby dies, we do that and bury the baby putting on that same napkin. So I do not doubt that the napkin that was on my door was the same one that we buried my baby in,” she narrated sadly.

Also accompanying the letter and napkin were meticais (Mozambican currency), Zimbabwean bearer cheques and a $2 pangolin coin.

Beauty Mlambo was only a month old when she was crushed by a commuter omnibus at Sakubva rank and died on the spot.

Makoni, who is a vendor at the termini, was selling her wares while her baby slept under the vending table when the disturbing incident occurred. The mother was hit from her back as she sat by her table, after the kombi veered off the road into the pavement and as the vehicle tried to reverse, it crashed the sleeping baby’s head.

The letter read, “ Makasimba here? Isu kuno takasuwa nyama yemwana yakatidzipa pahuro. Nyama yaBeauty. Saka ndinoda kuuya naye Beauty asi nyadzi dziri kundikunda. Ndakambouya asi hamuna kuzviona kuti ndakauya. Ndakauya nenapkin nyoro ndikaisa padhoo raBeauty ndichitarisira kuti muchamhanyamhanya. Ndipei meticais angu, pfuma yangu. Murume kuonererwa kutora monarch yake kupa vana.”

Makoni said other mysterious happenings that have been taking place at her place of residence in Gimboki include unbelievable hooting of owls during the day and night, and excessive crying of her year old son during the night.

All these happenings are associated with witchcraft in the Shona culture since time immemorial.

She also admitted that she had seen the wet napkin that was mentioned in the letter but had ignored it, not knowing that it meant something.

The Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers’ Association (ZINATHA)  spokesperson, Mr George Kandiero said the matter was a clear case of witchcraft which needs not any physician or Western medicine. He said Makoni needs assistance as the wandering spirit might affect the three children she has left.

Said Mr Kandiero; “She needs assistance and there are traditional healers who will help her to the extent that even the culprit will come forward without even being named.

“This will also help in checking if there are any other extraordinary and mysterious happenings around this family as they might still be in danger of this person who is still unknown.”

However, the Christian community said that all Makoni and her family needed are prayers so that the evil spirits stop tormenting her.

Pastor Munyaradzi Katandika of  Covenant Church For all Nations said what is needed is deliverance and the interference of the holy spirit.

“The lady and her family need to be prayed for so that the spirit that took her child will not come back and take the rest.”

He said the returning of the napkin and letter showed that the culprit was already being tormented and needed to own up to their wrong doings. Makoni’s colleague, Florence Dhliwayo who was also present when the shuttering incident occurred said it seemed as if baby Beauty’s soul is not at peace as she was now tormenting her attackers.

She said, it was obvious that the people who killed the baby are feeling guilty and want to right their wrong doings by sending messages and cries for help to the family of the deceased.

The matter of the napkin and letter have since been reported to the police.
