Since I came into this world my life has been filled with misery. My father left home and never came back when I was just 10-years-old and I have been accused of being the reason behind his departure. No explanation goes further than the accusation and I am now tired. My mother would beat me and do all sorts of cruel things to me, but I did not care. I am now in Form Four and a new dilemma has presented itself. My mother has begun accusing me of having an affair with her husband of five years. They have two children together and he is a kind Christian man who does not segregate me from his biological children. I fear sitting in the same room with him or even talking to him. It seems he does not know about my mother’s thoughts because with him all is normal. I am tired Aunty. Help me before I do something bad!

My darling, you are special and you will share your story of trials and tribulations with many in future. What you are going through is tough, but you are a survivor. Close your eyes and visualise the tenfold blessings God has preserved for you. Do not allow your pain to cloud your judgment and kill your dream in the process. Your mother loves you, believe it or not, she just does not know how to show you. She may have said and done a couple of hurtful things to you, but maybe it is because she is also hurting inside. Sometimes our parents are also carrying years of suffering that has received no treatment. Forgive her and be the child in the relationship by giving her due respect and love. Having said that, I want you to find someone close, mature and trustworthy to confide in about your thoughts and feelings. Never forget that you have the power to change your situation. You are the crayon that will colour the earth, broken or not.
