Dear Tete
I am a 14-year-old girl born with a disability. My mother has tried for many years to keep my father a secret from me. I have been asking about him for years and one day she finally told me where to find him. He is a civil servant with a house and a family, so I approached him at his work place. At first, he seemed like a good person but he changed as soon as I told him who I was. He said my mother had lied to him and that he did not know us. He told me to leave and never return. I was shocked and left the premises. I think if I was not disabled he would have accepted me.
Tete responds
Do not be broken or discouraged by the things done by ignorant people. Your mother probably had her reasons for not revealing your biological father all the while. She probably had seen and experienced his nasty side and wanted to protect you from him. It is quite unfortunate that we still have men who reject their responsibility as fathers. Let that not stop you from becoming the best you can be in life. Let your situation, environment or feelings be the reason for your downfall. God loves you and created you to be someone bigger than anyone’s reason for rejecting you. Disabled or not, so many people run from responsibility everyday. Stick to your mother who stood and continues to stand by you.
