PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will today (Friday) land at Mutare Aerodrome to address thousands of Zanu-PF supporters who are expected to throng the open space as the ruling party’s election campaign whirlwind sweeps through the eastern border city, 10 days before the harmonised elections on July 30.
Ordinarily, in the past, Presidential campaign rallies used to be conducted at Sakubva Stadium but with the huge crowds that Zanu-PF draws, the spacious aerodrome environments have been ideal compared to the 15 000-seater stadium.
In an interview yesterday, the ruling party’s Manicaland spokesman, Cde Kenneth Saruchera, said everything was in place for a resounding rally.
“Our house is in order and, as Manicaland, we are ready to welcome the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the First Secretary of our party Zanu-PF,” he said.
“We are appealing to the people of Manicaland to come in their thousands to meet his Excellency Cde ED Mnangagwa and give him a rousing welcome. We want to give him a message that Manicaland is ready for victory in the July 30 elections.
“We are welcoming a man who has demonstrated that he has a heart for this province. For example he has resuscitated the Zimunya-Marange Community Share Ownership Trust where he has already allocated $5 million and has promised further allocations.
“Manicaland is a chosen province because the national chairperson of the party, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri hails from here. Since the coming on board of the new dispensation a lot of roads in this province have been rehabilitated and the projects are continuing.
“President Mnagngagwa has visited our industries and he has seen for himself the situation of the factories and he has promised to revive them. Therefore this demonstrates that he has a heart for Manicaland and we must meet him in our numbers,” he said.
Cde Saruchera added that President Mnangagwa has brought unity in the ruling party.
“He is a servant leader and we are sure that he is going to address the critical issues affecting Manicaland with respect to the revival of our industries, value addition of our mineral wealth, agricultural production and resuscitation of the tourism sector. Generally, we are very happy that in the new dispensation Manicaland is poised for development.
“We are very confident of winning all the 26 constituencies in the province. Our candidates are working hard on the ground, connecting with communities and most importantly our campaign message is being bought by the electorate,” he said.
