MUTARE Polytechnic will be a hive of activity next Friday as the college will be hosting this year’s edition of the Tertiary Sports Association of Zimbabwe Games.

The games will run from April 7 to 12 and preparations are already in full swing. TESAZ Games local organising committee chairperson, Tsitsi Kunzwa, said preparations for the tournament were underway.

“Preparations for the hosting of the games have started and as the local organising committee chairperson I can confirm that Mutare Polytechnic is ready to host all the polytechnics and industrial training colleges from across Zimbabwe.

I am happy with the way the preparations are taking place and come next week all the games will start,” said Kunzwa. Kunzwa, who is a lecturer and also dean of students at Mutare Polytechnic, added: “We are working tirelessly to ensure the success of the Games.”

She said students would be competing in chess, netball, athletics, rugby, cricket, tennis, women soccer, soccer, karate, pool, darts, volleyball and basketball.

There will also be a beauty pageant on April 11 where Miss and Mr TESAZ will be crowned.

Mutare Polytechnic Student Representative Council president who is also a male student representative for the TESAZ, Wengesai Duwati, said he was happy that Mutare Polytechnic would be hosting the Games.

“As the student body, we are proud to be hosting these games. As the old adage say: ‘All work and no play makes John a dull boy’, our play is coming in the form of sports and we will put all our efforts to ensure that most medals remain with the host institution.

These are inclusive Games and we like to express our gratitude to TESAZ for it is for the first time that they will also be participating in the Paralympics,” he said.
