THE Provincial Education Director for Manicaland did it again recently when he gave awards to different schools and individual students in Mutare District. The awards covered academic, sport, arts and culture for rural and urban schools at both primary and secondary levels.

The awards ceremony was held at Mutare Boys High School.

This is the second time the PED has done this, the first being the mega Provincial Merit awards that covered all schools in the province a few months ago. The PED’s opening remarks at the District merit awards function was short and sweet. He urged his schools to keep the provincial flag up and keep the kettle boiling.

Speaking on the day’s theme — Focusing On Effective Implementation of The New Curriculum at Boys High School last Friday, the PED revealed how serious Government was on implementing the new curriculum.

“Allow me to highlight how serious our Government is in implementing the new curriculum. At national level, Government has provided funding for the training of provincial and district inspectorate, school heads and teachers,” said Mr Shumba.

He revealed that in Mutare District alone, this third term of 2016, Government had funded training workshops to the tune of $65 540-00 to conduct marathon workshops on syllabus interpretation from district to school level.

The PED told the audience that the implementation of the new curriculum was core business at this stage of educational development in the country.

“Let me assure you. . .that this occasion and future ones of this nature will be the platform on which schools, teachers and learners will show case their zeal to ensure success of the new curriculum,” said Mr Shumba.

At the time of reading this report there is already evidence of marathon workshops on syllabus interpretations throughout Manicaland province.

Speaking on the same occasion the PED revealed that all primary schools in Mutare District had established ECD A and B classes in both rural and urban areas, which means that they have now embraced the 9 year primary school programme.

He concluded his opening remarks by asserting that Manicaland as a province deserved the best and thus the need to celebrate the day in style.

Indeed Manicaland’s excellence, driven by Mr Edward Shumba’s vision and wise leadership which is second to none, is on record. The Manica Post and the school education department of DiamondFM Radio sincerely wish him and the province more power, vision and wisdom to keep the province far ahead of others!
