Mutare-born Mariyoni eyes SA move

MUTARE-BORN Tsholotsho FC goalkeeper, Chang Mariyoni,  who will soon join the Great Trek south of the Limpopo has become the latest addition to the list of players that are being managed by South Africa-based businessman, James Lunga Meya.

Mariyoni has been getting rave reviews in the media in recent months for splendid performances for his team. The Mutare football benefactor, Meya, who is popularly known as Hwetu in soccer circles in the eastern border city, has assisted a number of Mutare-based clubs and individual players with resources, training material and club transfer opportunities.

Mariyoni confirmed that he now has Meya as his manager. “I am happy to announce that James Lunga Meya is now my manager and we actually agreed on working terms. In fact he is the one handling my transfer to a South African club. “We will make the transfer details public after everything has been concluded,” said Mariyoni.

In an interview from his base in South Africa, Meya said he had secured trials with a number of ABSA Premiership and National First Division teams. “At least that boy will be joining the list of many young talented players from Mutare I have natured and mentored. “The likes of Liberty Chakoroma, Blessing Mandimutsira, Tichaona Mabvura and Washington Arubi.

“In fact, he will soon be coming down here for trails with a number of ABSA Premiership and National First Division clubs. “In the same breadth, I am also working on a possible move again for Chakoroma to try his luck again next season as we believe he is now ready to compete for a place in top-flight league club,” said Meya.

Born Chang Shupayi Mariyoni on June 29, 1993, the talented shot stopper did his primary education at Chisamba Primary before enrolling at Elise Gledhill and later at Mutare Boys’ High for his secondary education.

He played for the Sicho Masachi-coached La Sakubva FC Juniors before joining Division Two outfit Inyangani FC and later Mutare United in Division One. He also turned out for Kiglon Bird FC before he joined his current club Tsholotsho FC.
