THIS year’s edition of the Mutare Book Fair scheduled for the end of this month at Mutare Hall will help unpack some of the critical components in the new school curriculum.

It will be held on September 29 and 30 under the theme “Making the book pay – The economics of the book”.

In a statement this week, the Zimbabwe International Book Fair Association executive board chairperson, Mr Blazio Tafireyi, said the workshop was open to everyone.

“This platform creates an opportunity to address and discuss issues that have been identified as beneficial to the book sector in order to exploit common synergies that help to grow the industry,” said Mr Tafireyi.

He added: “Of key interest to most educational institutions at the event will be the joint workshop for the book industry consumers in the form of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and the book industry players with a focus on the new curriculum, mainly Mass Displays, Physical Education and Sport, Visual and Performing Arts and Heritage Studies.”

Besides the exhibitions, scores of people expected to attend the event will also get an opportunity to meet the authors of some of the books on display. They will also be a joint interactive workshop for writers, publishers, booksellers and librarians.

Schools that will attend the fair are also legible to take part in the spelling bee and quiz competitions where winners will walk away with several prizes courtesy of Zimpapers, which is supporting the book fair. Children’s Reading Tent and the Live Literature Tent will also be available for young readers.

“The fair is open for everyone. We are inviting parents, teachers and pupils from schools in Manicaland to attend the Book Fair exhibitions and sample books for educational advancement, professional development and individual intellectual growth. It is also an opportunity for the public to discover the opportunities that lie in books for further learning and knowledge acquisition,” he said.
