ZANU-PF national secretary for transport and welfare, Cde Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, has called for unity among all party cadres ahead of the Chimanimani West by-election scheduled for November 26.

Speaking at a campaign rally to drum-up support for Zanu-PF candidate, Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyere at Nyanyadzi Primary School last Saturday, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri, said all party members should share the same goals and vision.

Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri was part of Politburo and Central Committee members who were dispatched by the ruling party to Chimanimani West to campaign for Cde Matsikenyere.

Another Politburo member as well as Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr Chris Mushohwe was also in the constituency where he addressed a rally at Mhandarume Primary School.

“If we unite and put all our differences aside, we will win this seat without fail.

“We should also remember that our sons and daughters fought in the liberation struggle and that there is no sacrifice which exceeds that of dying for the freedom of others. We should put that in mind and vote for Cde Matsikenyere,” she said.

She also warned those fanning divisions to desist from such practice.

On the issue of diamond mining at the nearby Chiadzwa diamond fields, Cde Muchinguri-Kashiri, said the precious gems should create employment for locals.

“Youths here are unemployed and it is our duty to push the mining company to create employment for them. In Manicaland we have diamond mines, so let us utilise them and create employment for our own children as they are currently wallowing in poverty in this era of economic hardships,” she said. She also initiated a number of projects that will help in creating employment in the constituency.

The projects include the restoration of irrigation schemes in Nyanyadzi, borehole drilling and bee-keeping.

In an interview, Cde Matsikenyere said she was confident of winning the by-election.

“This is how we do things in Zanu-PF. We love one another and we are united. That guarantees us the Chimanimani West seat,” she said.

Cde Matsekenyere is competing with Mr Peter Gudyanga of the Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe, Mr Edmore Mtetwa, an Independent candidate and Mr Pesanai Musakaruka of National Constitutional Assembly for the Chimanimani West seat that was left vacant following the ouster of Engineer Munacho Mutezo from the ruling party for his links with the Dr Joice Mujuru-led Zimbabwe People First opposition party.
