MUTARE Sports Club coach, Mackenzie Munetsi, believes visitors, Old Miltonians, will have a good run for their money when the two sides clash in an Intercity League match to be played tomorrow at Mutare Sports Club.

The ongoing Intercity League, formerly National Rugby League, will see the two teams clashing for the first time since the beginning of the league.

The match starts at 3.30pm. “Old Miltonians have always been a tricky customer to The Lions. Just like any other team in the league, they are a good side, but we are focusing more on ourselves than them. We want to give them a torrid time on Saturday.

“Discipline, communication and sticking to the game plan have brought constant wins to MSC since the beginning of the league. Our boys are doing quite well and they have grown from being groups into a team. “They now know each other better and they are working very hard towards the good of the team,” said Munetsi.

MSC romped to victory against Old Hararians during last weekend’s round of league matches, with an outstanding performance that brought them team back to their winning ways.

The 22-12 win against Old Hararians followed a massive defeat at the hands of Old Georgians on July 15 in Harare. However, the Shumbas have so far lost two of the nine matches they have played so far.

Shumbas’ first defeat was against Harare Sports Club (HSP) away in Harare. One of the key players, Tatenda Maunga, said: “We had great support from rugby fans in the eastern border city and they seem to have been convinced that Mutare has a lot of untapped talent in the game. We will teach Old Miltonians a lesson tomorrow.”

Intercity League returned after National Rugby League abruptly stopped due to lack of funding in 2014. The Intercity League has 11 teams that include MSC, Harare Sports Club (HSC), Gweru Sports Club (GSC), Old Miltonians (OMS), Old Hararians (OH), Old Georgians (OGS), Old Johannians (OJS), Highlanders formerly Western Panthers (WP), Matabeleland Warriors (MW), Police Defenders (PD) and Police Bulldogs (PB).

The winners will participate in the Gold Cup in South Africa on an invitation basis.
