DEFENDING champions of the Best Small to Medium Enterprise Stand award at the Manicaland Agricultural Show 2016, Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces, have retained their title and scooped the award again this year. The company, which has several branches across Harare and Marondera, is hoping to spread its wings to Mutare and give the city’s residents a taste of what they have been missing.

Founded in 2000 by Dr Phillip Zengeya, Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces has been through its own rough patches and at one time had a temporary shutdown for six months.

The company temporarily closed its doors due to the harsh economy in 2008 only to reopen sometime in 2009. Today, however, the SME which started as a one-man business now boasts 25 employees in both Harare and Marondera. In an interview, Dr Zengeya said it was an honour for them to be recognised as one of the best in business circles in Manicaland while they have not yet settled in the city.

He said it showed that they have great potential of receiving good business deals once they settle in the eastern border city.

“It is such an honour to have our efforts recognised for the second time consecutively. We hope that when we finally settle in Mutare, we will get that same recognition and get favourable business deals that will benefit both the company and the customer,” said Dr Zengeya.

He also said what was slowing them down is the fact that the economy is going through a rough patch and prices of raw materials have gone up including steel, making it hard to conduct a stable business.

“The price of steel is going up daily and due to that we are failing to keep to our plans. However, our main objective as Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces is to create employment we are pulling all necessary strings that will enable us to open our doors in Mutare sooner,’’ he said.

Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces seems to be a company that attracts recognition and awards wherever it goes as it boasts countless accolades awarded by various boards in the country.

These include Best Innovator of the Year Award 2012 in the SMEs category awarded by ZNCC, Best Innovation and Organised Company of the Year 2014 awarded by MegaFest, Entrepreneur of the Year, First Runner-up and Manager of the Year award 2015 awarded by Zimbabwe Institute of Management (ZIM). Best Management Practice Excellence 2016 First Runner-up award by the ZIM and a whole lot other awards.

Moushtec Steel and Fireplaces are manufacturers of fireplaces, garage doors, sliding gates, braai stands, waste incinerators, expanda screens, palisade fencing, tank stands, fireplace decorations  and metal/ steel fabrication.
