Mountaineers focused on clinching Logan Cup Mohammad Eqlakh

MANICALAND’S cricket franchise Mountaineers dismissed Rising Stars by 193 runs last Wednesday to complete the first round of the prestigious Logan Cup without any defeat.

Mountaineers who are the defending champions are left with three more games including two home games. Mountaineers coach Shepherd Makunura applauded his boys and added that he hope to win their remaining encounters.

“I’m happy with my team’s performance though there is room for improvement. We had a good first round, hopefully we will keep improving in all departments,” he said.

Mountaineers have won three out of the four games they have played and drew one. They are now on top of the five team log table with a total of 34 points ahead of Mashonaland Eagles who have 26 points from the same number of games. Matabeleland Tuskers are third with 19 points while Mid West Rhinos are on fourth position with 14 points. Rising Stars are on last position also with 14 points.

Meanwhile Mountaineers new signing Mohammad Eqlakh has been the man of the moment after a sterling performance in his two games he has played. The Indian right hand batsman made his first class debut when Mountaineers played Tuskers on November 6-9 where he scored 30 runs in the first inning and 67runs in the second inning.

His second game was against Rising Stars where he scored 9 runs in the first inning and 153 not out in the second innings.  The 22 year old batsman contributed to the team’s193 runs victory.
