A Mount Selinda High School A-Level History teacher, Mr Zwekuzwa Mlambo, is on cloud nine after his students did extremely well in the 2017 ZIMSEC examinations. A record 26 students got distinctions and 4 had B’s out of the 30 students who sat for the examinations. Notably, 19 girls had A’s and three had B’s. This is especially noteworthy bearing in mind that Mr Mlambo was the acting Deputy Head during that period.
“I am elated and am proud of the students who worked very hard through-out the two-year period,’’ Mr Z as he is affectionately known said.
Mount Selinda High School had three 15 pointers as it continues to scale the academic heights. Chipinge had four schools which had 15 and above pointers. Nevertheless, the district education directorate wants more qualitative passes for those who go for A-Level.
“Most A-Level students passed. Notably, Mutema and Mafumise High Schools had a number of students who aced their subjects. That is commendable but we are of the opinion that more 15 or more pointers should come out of our district. Moreover, Gaza High School put the district on the academic map,’’ Mr Richard Gabaza, the district schools inspector, said.
Mutema High School head, Mr Samuel Chikumba was over the moon.
“My staff and I are beside ourselves with happiness. These students have made us really proud and we hope that they would do much better than that this year,’’ he said.
Mutema and Mafumise High Schools are rural day secondary schools.
