21-YEAR-OLD student, Sasha Sibanda was last Saturday crowned Miss Diamond City at a colourful event held at Courtauld Theatre. The vivacious Sasha beat 13 other girls in a stiff competition which saw the regular models taking part.Sasha was overwhelmed with tears of joy during the crowning ceremony and appeared shocked when her name was announced.

“I am shocked and excited at the same time. I don’t know what to do. This was a very stiff competition to me. I am so delighted to have named the winner. The girls looked beautiful. Competition was stiff as we were told that the one with height, beauty and body would win. I did not see myself fit for the crown, but kept my confidence on,” said Sasha.

Sasha, a high school student who is doing Mathematics proved to the judges that she does not have the beauty only, but the perfect body and intelligence. She sailed through all the categories at boot camp and on the ramp without any problems.

For winning the title, she went away with fabulous prizes from the sponsors that included Central Bank of Zimbabwe (CBZ) Mutare’s branch manager, Sarah Dee Promotions, Gold Tech, Spar, Pick and Pay, Patie Printers and Courtauld Theatre.

The newly crowned queen of the diamond city is expected to represent the city at the casting for Miss Tourism Zimbabwe together with her crowned princesses.
Rachel Chiitirwa (19) was the first princess and Pelagia Makamba (19) was the second princess.

This year’s pageant was stiff on the models’ personal level as they were told essentials that the judges were looking at, said Sarah Dhliwayo, the pageant director.

“The pageant was stiff to the models as the judges were focusing on height then beauty, body, intelligence and so on. Most of the models are short and their height may become a problem to the standard height required to compete in the Miss Tourism Zimbabwe. I believe those crowned are up to standard,” said Sarah Dee.

The event was a success.

The pageant also had junior’s category. Sharma Nyagomo (4) was crowned Miss Mini-Junior and Mr Mini-Junior was Lenox Muchenje. Miss Toddler was Shalom Muchenje and Leona Kandenga was crowned Miss Junior.
