PREPARATIONS for this year’s Miss Africa University beauty pageant scheduled for next Friday at Golden Peacock Villa Hotel are at an advanced stage with a bevy of 12 models expected to battle it out on the romp.

The event is set to give a new lease of life to the local modelling industry which has been on its death bed following the withdrawal of sponsors in recent years citing poor returns on investment.

Organisers of the event said 12 models had confirmed participation and were rehearsing.

“We are happy with the preparations. The auditions have been going on well and we are happy with the models’ enthusiasm. We are currently looking for boys or men who would take part,” reads the Miss AU statement.

Two models, Anesu Hokoyo and Ratidzo Gwati, who hailed from Africa University, have been among the successful models ever to emerge from the varsity and Mutare after they represented the city at the Miss Tourism national contest and the Miss 21st February Movement beauty pageant finals respectively in 2016.
