MUTARE’s own jewel, Hilda Mwaturura-Minjale raised the country’s flag high after she emerged as one of the finest models in the Mrs Africa pageant held late last month in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The 36-year-old woman, who won the Mrs Africa Zimbabwe, will represent Africa in the Mrs Glamour International to be held in Belgium sometime this year.

This year’s edition was attended by 40 finalists, all married women.

South African model, Kedidimetse Tswai won the overall Mrs Africa 2017 and the Mrs Globe titles, beating 39 other contestants, including Minjale, drawn from across the continent. She will travel to China in October for the Mrs Globe pageant.

According to Mrs Africa pageant Facebook page, Tswai made a mark in the pageantry world from a tender age. She is a businesswoman, a brand ambassador and strives to empower, uplift and give dignity back to the less privileged. She is a mother of two and a loving wife.

A total of 11 women from Africa will represent the continent in international titles at grand finals such as Mrs Globe, Mrs Globe Classic, Mrs Universal / Ms Universal, Mrs Earth, Mrs Glamour, Mrs Glamour International, Mrs Hemisphere / Ms Hemisphere, Mrs Worldwide and Mrs World International.

Adjudicators who took part in the pageant include head judge, Leon Taylor, Gillian Eayrs Elson, Heidi Botes, Kwena Elizabeth Manamela, Realeboga, Wendy Smit, Angie Bryant and Nico Botha.

The ecstatic Minjale told The Weekender that she drew many lessons from the pageant, particularly through interaction.

“It’s amazing how some women across the continent are working hard to empower the girl child. It was an exciting experience and I learnt quite a lot. I was inspired to work extra hard for the girl child and the marginalised. After this experience, I have to be exemplary and work towards raising more funds and handouts for charity. Though I haven’t acquired a sponsor yet, I am actually in a process of raising more sanitary pads to give to the less privileged girls in marginalised areas,” she said.

So far, Minjale has managed to amass 30 packs of sanitary pads which she handed over to less privileged families in Mashonaland East. She will hand over the next batch of sanitary pads in marginalised areas in Manicaland province. She extended a begging bowl to individuals and stakeholders with any form of assistance to assist her in her quest to empower the girl child.
