MATCHES for the second half of Manicaland Basketball Association 2016/2016 league have started with 15 teams battling to qualify for Basketball Association of Zimbabwe competitions to be held later this year.

Mercenaries and Nets led the male and female sections with 15 and 12 points respectively during the first half.

Male teams to take part in the second half are Mercenaries, Danagamvura Knights, Titans, Sharks, Hustlers, AU, Chiefs, Sophists, F. Nets and Sixers.

AU, Nets, Sharks, Danagamvura Knights and Mutare Girls’ High School are the female teams taking part.

The first games for the second half were held last Saturday at Mutare Boys’ High School where only male teams took part.

Dangamvura Knights and Titans are proving to be threats to Mercenaries’ dominance in the league as they have equal number of points after winning all their games.

The three teams now have 18 points regardless of the number of games they won and lost in the first half of the league.

Mercenaries won 172 -37 against Nets, while Titans won 57-26 against Sixers. Dangamvura-Knights defeated Hustlaz 60-39.

Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said the first half was full of fun, but the second half was promising fireworks.

“The first half of the 2016/16 MBA league was full of fun, but the second half will be fully loaded. Last week’s games marked the beginning of the second half and displays made by the six teams that played were great,” said Dhliwayo. He hailed efforts being made by Titans and D-Knights to end Mercenaries’ dominance of the sport in Manicaland.

“This year is full of surprises as nobody expected the way Titans and D-Knights played last weekend, leaving them with equal points with Mercenaries. I urge people to come in their numbers and have fun. There will be lots of braai, beverages and jumping castles for the kids during this second half. Let us come and witness our fellow brothers and sister displaying what they can do best on the basketball court,” he added.

Teams that will take part in tomorrow (Saturday)’s matches are AU, Sixers, MGHS, Sharks, AU, Nets, Sophists, Mercenaries, Hustlaz, Titans and Chiefs.

Female teams will be playing at Mutare Girls’ High School.
