TRIED and tested Mutare athletics administrator and coach, Joshua ‘Zesa’ Matume, won the mandate to lead the Manicaland Athletics Board (MAB) for the second consecutive term.

Matume, who was uncontested during last Saturday’s MAB elective Annual General Meeting held at Chancellor Junior School will lead an executive that also includes Chipinge-based Taurai Gatsi as secretary, while gender balance was struck when Chipo Mutedzi was elected Matume’s deputy.

The Zimbabwe National Youth Games Manicaland general manager, Masimba Chihowa, who happens to be the head of Chancellor Junior School, presided over the elections. The Sports and Recreation Commission was represented by Cazlin Mpota.

In fact, the committee was retained as it was, only with the exception of the post of vice-secretary which is no longer existing according to the new constitution.

Vice-chairperson’s post went to Mutedzi who was set to contest against one nominee, Briad Nhubu, who later turned down the vice-chairperson’s post since he had already been voted in as MAB treasurer.

Secretary’s post was also retained by Chipinge-based Taurai Gatsi who was also unopposed.

Nhubu who had only one competitor in one Bore of Nyanga won convincingly.

Gatsi confirmed the results and thanked key stakeholders who made the elective AGM a success.

“On behalf of MAB executive, I would like to thank all board members who were present to make this AGM a success and more importantly their unwavering support. We promise to continue working hard and accelerate developmental initiatives for the province,” said Gatsi.

In an interview, Matume said he would continue working for the good of athletics in Manicaland and called on all prospective sponsors to partner athletics in the quest to develop talented youths within the four corners of the province.

“I am generally happy with the achievements that we have accomplished as province during my term as chairman. I am really looking forward to working together with all other stakeholders in my second consecutive term in office so that we develop the athletics in the province. Manicaland has a lot of potential and together we can make it great,” said Matume.
