MANICALAND Scouts Association will next week hold a party at Chinziwa Scout Camp in Vumba to celebrate milestone achievements it attained in the year 2017. The association’s chairman, Mr Enerst Mungwari, said the party which is slated for December 23, was also meant to appreciate sterling efforts made by stakeholders and scouts to keep the association afloat.

“We had an eventful year. We are proud that we achieved most of the things we intended to due to hard work, dedication and unity. The association has registered significant growth this year in many dimensions. This is the time to honour and appreciate my team for a job well done. We plan to slaughter a beast for guests to devour,” he said.

He added that he was unfazed by petty criticism and discouragement he and the association received during the year. Among some of the achievements, were the appointment of a substantive provincial scout commissioner, Mr Thomas Mabika, and his assistant commissioners.

“Three leaders attained wood badges after they conducted some training, a massive achievement in scouts. Manicaland also successfully hosted two major national events namely, the national elective annual general meeting and the scout national skills competitions. During the annual general meeting, Mr Mungwari, alongside the secretary, Mr Zimunhu, were awarded a medal for outstanding contribution to the development of scouting in Zimbabwe. The award was in recognition of Mr Mungwari’s immense contribution to the construction of a 1 000 seater hall in Vumba.

The association which also managed to send one scout, Vincent Koffi, to Germany, aims to have more than 10 000 scouts by 2023 according to the World Scout Organisation target.
