MANICALAND Darts Association chairman Joe Marime has expressed confidence in the provincial team that will compete in the National Heroes Darts Tournament to be played at Thornhill in Gweru today.

Marime said their team was geared up and ready to compete in this national event.

“We are ready. We have quality players who have a fighting spirit.

“Last year we managed to bring home two gold and one silver medals and this year we will bring more,” he said.

Manicaland will be fielding two men’s teams, one ladies’ team and a junior team.

There is Team A, which is comprised of last year’s gold medalist, Selesio Gunda, veteran Caleb Sigauke, Othaniel Makwara, Isaac Mlambo, Weston Chinodakufa, Tarisai Bhasvi.

Team B is made up of Givemore Samhutsa, Edison Muusha, Joel Marime, Duwen Madire, Jaison Muwani, Action Chiroodza and Buddy Gombedza.

Deline Jayne, fast rising star Chipo Nyasha, Maria Mlambo and Petronella Mususa make up the ladies team, while Henry Poroto and Desinite Mwadzinga will participate in the Under-19 category. All the 10 provinces are expected to grace this annual event.

Last year, Team Manicaland did not disappoint as they managed to bring two gold medals and a bronze medal.

Chipinge-based Selesio Gunda won gold in the men’s open singles, while Zimbabwe’s wonder girl, Melo Gezana, won gold in the women’s closed single.

Caleb Sigauke, who had previously won gold, settled for bronze in the men’s closed single after losing to David Nyemba in the semi-finals.

The team will miss the services of Manicaland and Zimbabwe’s top player, Melo Gezana, who has family commitments.

Some of the players who spoke to Post Sports, said they were travelling to Gweru with a positive mind and that they were ready to bring more medals home. Marime said of all the districts affiliated to the province, Chipinge was doing well after contributing more players who made it into the provincial team.

“Chipinge has proved to be a powerhouse and are doing great. We have nine players from Chipinge and it shows that they are working very hard.

“I also urge other districts to work hard for the better of the game. Makoni have only contributed Action Mlambo,” he said.
