FIRST Lady, Dr Amai Grace Mugabe was last Friday charmed by the unity of purpose displayed by the provincial leadership that went out of its way to organise her meet the people rally at St John’s in Buhera at a very short notice.
Speaking moments before her departure to Harare after officially opening a girls’ dormitory at Hande High School, Dr Amai Mugabe, said: “My words to His Excellency President Mugabe after this highly successful rally is that the people of Manicaland are a united lot. Despite the short notice, the turn-out was very impressive. This was my first meet the people rally and it went well beyond my imagination.

“I want to salute the Manicaland leadership for this great gesture of ensuring that the grassroots were mobilised for this event. I was very impressed and this unity of purpose should prevail until 2018. The leadership has reiterated its commitment of winning all the seats come 2018 elections and by what I saw today, they are in the right track.

However, we should not sit on our laurels and think that it is a done job because the enemy can come up with surprises.

“I will be touring the other nine provinces and they should all work to surpass what Manicaland has done. We made a lot of promises to the electorate in 2013. Some of the promises were fulfilled, while some were not. The illegal sanctions imposed on our country by our detractors contributed immensely in our failure to fulfil some of the 2013 promises, but we should not lose hope, things will work out,” said Dr Amai Mugabe.

Earlier on Dr Amai Mugabe left the Buhera community beaming with smiles after her generous donations.

She donated 20 000 bars of soap, 20 000 pairs of shoes, 20 000 litres of cooking oil, 10 000kgs of washing powder, 5 000 tablets of bathing soap, 15 tonnes of second hand clothes, 10 000kgs of flour, 120 tonnes of rice, 150 tonnes of maize as well as 300 tonnes of urea fertiliser.

Turning to factional politics, Dr Amai Mugabe, said it was sad to note that there were pretenders in the party working towards the destruction of Zanu-PF.

“We have party spoilers in our midst and they should watch out. These are the very people who divide votes.

“Some of you are burdened by your loads and you should first put them down before you harbour any leadership ambitions.

“Leadership positions do not require people with blemishes. Some of you angling for leadership positions are perennial losers and even if we put a chicken to contest you, you will never win.

“You may think that they are engaging in factionalism because they want leadership positions, yet they know that they are spoilers who don’t qualify for leadership positions.
“Some of you in leadership positions stand aloof while President Mugabe is being attacked, yet you claim to be loyal cadres. Watch out I will soon blow the whistle,” said Dr Amai Mugabe.

On the negative stories being published by the media, Dr Amai Mugabe said: “Some people say the media is demonising President Mugabe and the party, but you should know that it us the leaders who feed the journalists with information to write. We know of people who pay journalists to write negative things. At times the journalists are receiving death threats if they fail to write something that pleases certain individuals.

“People pretend to be Zanu-PF to the core, yet they are threats to the party. Some are saying President Mugabe is now old and should retire. No! At least myself, I can say that because I did not start with him in 1980.

“I don’t want to be told that by a person who started with the President in 1980. You started together in 1980 and now you want to tell someone that you are old. No! That is unfair.

“If you want President Mugabe to retire, you go together with him and we take over. We were not there in 1980. Hatidi kudyiwa takasvinura sematemba. Hove chete ndiyo inodyiwa yakasvinura. I hear people saying that you still want to continue as First Lady of this country and that is why you are not telling (President) Mugabe to retire. Simply because I stay with him so I should tell him that you should retire? Did I vote for President Mugabe alone? Never. Don’t expect that from me. You can only say that to a fool, not to me.

“President Mugabe was voted into office by the masses. In 2018, the numbers are going to increase,” said Dr Mugabe.
