Manica Post Editor Hatred Zenenga was the toast of the day among his peers last Friday at the Zimbabwe Open University graduation held at the official varsity site, ZOU Hatcliffe complex when he walked away with four prizes as the Best Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies student.In the process, he received the university book prize, a floating trophy cash sponsored by Timeless Photos and a printer sponsored by First Pack.
After some years of serious study which had to be squeezed into his high-pressure job of editing one of the leading weeklies in the country, it was time to get due recognition and he did it in style as he walked down the aisle to be capped by President Mugabe last Friday, a day that will remain etched in the collective memories of his family.
“It was a tough exercise as I had to juggle between work and school. “However, my colleagues and my family were my pillar of strength. “There were times when I felt the work load was overwhelming but my wife asked me to plod on until final victory,” the soft spoken Editor said.
He added: “I would like to heartily thank, first my family, my workmates in Zimpapers, ZOU lecturers and staff, in particular Mr Muonwa, Mr Muchena, Mr Nduna and Mr Mapara for their untiring support and encouragement. Indeed, it was because of guidance and faith from all of them that I managed to complete my degree with a good class.
“Obviously, the roots were bitter but the fruit is sweet. “Napoleon Hill said: ‘Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.’ True to his words, this was not a walk in the park.”
Asked about his future plans regarding academic work, Zenenga said: “From here, I will go in the direction of my dreams and aim to shoot for the moon. If I miss, I am sure, I will land among the stars.”
