Man up for striking teen neighbour with an axe

A 29-YEAR-OLD Mutare man was hauled before the courts last week for allegedly assaulting and striking his 15-year-old neighbour with an axe on the head.Joel Zimunya of Chimwaza Village under Chief Zimunya was facing attempted murder charges as defined in Section 189 (1) (a) or (b) ARW Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

He appeared before Mr Poterai Gwezhira who remanded him in custody to October 3 and was advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

The court heard that on September 8 at around 2pm, Zimunya approached the 15-year-old boy who was collecting his brother, Trevor Mutasa’s cellphone at Wilson Kasemba’s homestead.

“Zimunya started quizzing him about Stanley Kasemba’s whereabouts, but the boy told him that he did not know where he had gone to.

“Zimunya assaulted the boy all over the body with fists. He went on to strike the boy with an axe on the head. The complainant sustained a deep cut on his head. A report was made at ZRP Muromo Post,” said Mr Karombe.
