A 20-YEAR-OLD Mutare man who stole liquor from a local night club and was arrested enjoying it with some ladies of the night at Balmoral Lodge was last week remanded in custody pending sentence.

Takudzwa Taruvinga (20) of House Number 1920, Chikanga 2, Mutare pleaded guilty to the theft charges when he appeared in court last Thursday.

Responding to the allegations, Taruvinga said the need to be worshipped and praised by his female friends, the sex workers at the lodge had driven him to steal the liquor and share it with them.

“Your Worship, the door at the night club was unlocked and there was no one around, so I just saw this as an opportunity for me to get free booze,” he said.

Mr Poterai Gwezhira presided over the matter, as Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

It was alleged that Taruvinga went to Gullivers Night Club on December 13 and found that the manager was absent.

He opened the doors, entered the bar and looted six Savanna Dry ciders, six Smirnoff Spin ciders, six Dragon energy drinks, three Nederburg wine, six Breeze ciders, five Zambezi lagers, five Castle Lagers, two Coca-cola drinks, six Smirnoff Storm ciders and five boxes of Everest cigarettes.

He went away with the loot and when Admire Musiiwa, the Gullivers Bar manager made a follow-up with the police they found Taruvinga busy entertaining some female sex workers at the lodge.

“Taruvinga was caught enjoying the stolen loot with ladies of the night at Balmoral Lodge that same day after Musiiwa had been tipped off by passers-by who had seen Taruvinga looting,” said Mr Karombe.

The value of the stolen liquor was $140 and nothing was recovered.
