AN ODZI man smashed a villager’s car before assaulting him with an iron bar for having an affair with his girlfriend.
Tatenda Matima (24) of Cell One in Odzi maliciously damaged Matogo Mauya (43)’s car after a misunderstanding over his (Mauya)’s alleged affair with Matima’s girlfriend.
Matima claimed that the lady in question was his wife.
After smashing Mauya’s car’s windscreen, Matima went on to assault him with an iron bar in the face before shooting him with catapults on a later date.
This happened at Dark Horse Bar in Odzi.
Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura presided over the matter, while Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
Matima pleaded guilty to the charges.
Mr Karombe told the court on December 26, Matima smashed Mauya’s car’s windscreens worth $800 after the two had quarrelled over a girlfriend.
Matima on February 13 around 2:30pm approached Mauya while he was at Dark Horse Bar. He grabbed an iron bar and hit him once on the face before shooting him with catapults. He sustained deep cuts on the face.
Trying to defend himself, Matima told the court that Mauya was disrespecting him by sleeping with his wife and also going around boasting about it.
“Your Worship, Mauya does not respect me. I smashed his car’s windscreen because I had caught him red-handed naked with my wife for the second time. I was also in the same bar when he boasted that he had slept with my wife. That pissed me off, a reason I assaulted him,” he said.
Mr Bepura told Matima that anger and violence do not in any way solve civil disputes.
He was sentenced to four months imprisonment or pay $800 restitution for the malicious damage of the car and four months imprisonment for assault.
