A 38-YEAR-OLD Chimanimani man was robbed 30 pieces of diamonds worth $10 000 last Tuesday.

Calson Chinguwo and three other unknown armed robbers allegedly approached Solomon Machisi (38) at Chaseyama Business Centre in Chief Mutambara’s area pretending to be buyers, but robbed the precious gems at gun point before disappearing.

Chinguwo was arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Police said three other accomplices are still at large.

“We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the three accused to contact their nearest police station. Police have since launched a manhunt to bring the culprits to book,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa.

Chinguwo approached Machisi and Francis Dube of Jinga Village in Chief Mutambara’ area saying he had diamond buyers whom he wanted to bring at Chaseyama on December 6.

It is alleged that on the day at around 2am, Chinguwo brought three purported buyers to Jinga Village.

“They were driving a grey Honda Fit. Upon reaching Chaseyama, Dube led Chinguwo and company to Machisi’s homestead. Machisi called his friend, Oliver Bvekwa to come with more diamonds. Machisi surrendered 30 pieces of diamonds worth $10 000. They entered into the car to finish the transactions. One of the unknown accused produced a pistol and pushed them out of the car. They sped off. Their car landed into a gulley and overturned. The armed robbers dumped the car and took to their heels,” he said.

Insp Kakohwa urged people to desist from engaging in illegal diamond dealings.
