A MUTARE man has been hauled before the courts on murder charges for allegedly killing his friend over a $1.

Lloyd Murigwa (31) of Karuma Village under Chief Zimunya appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura charged with murder with actual intent as defined in Section 47 of The Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act.

Public prosecutor Miss Christine Mwenga told the court that the murder occurred in April this year.

“On the unknown date to the prosecutor but in April this year, the deceased was given a dollar to buy beer but he later on refused pay back the amount to the suspect,’’ she said.

The court heard that the two friends then meet on later on April 27 and the suspect asked for his dollar back.

A misunderstanding arose between the two and a scuffle ensued along the Harare-Masvingo Highway.

The deceased told the suspect that he was not in position to give him his money back. Murigwa became angry and pushed him into a moving car. The deceased was run over by a car and he died on the spot.

Mr Bepura advised Murigwa to apply for bail at the High Court since he was facing a Third Schedule offence.
