A PHYSICAL confrontation between a Rusape man and his step-son ended tragically after the former died due to injuries sustained during the fight.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa, confirmed the incident saying Bernard Muchera (23) of Nechironga Village in Chief Tandi’s area was arrested and charged with the murder of his 72-year-old stepfather, Macdonald Kasinge.

“On April 8 at around 8am, Bernard Muchera had an altercation with the late Macdonald Kasinge. Kasinge wanted Bernard to vacate his homestead because he was not respecting him.

“A misunderstanding arose. Macdonald assaulted Bernard with fists. Bernard retaliated and attacked him with fists until he became unconscious. When he saw that his father had fainted, he fled from the homestead.

“Other villagers gathered at Macdonald’s homestead and he later gained consciousness. Macdonald later went to make a police report of assault. He was referred to Rusape General Hospital for treatment and was admitted. He died around 8pm.

“Bernard was arrested and charged with murder. He is in custody assisting police with investigations. As police, we continue to implore the public not to resort to violence as a way of solving disputes. Whenever disputes arose we encourage people to solve them amicably,” said Insp Kakohwa.
