A 26-YEAR-OLD Chisumbanje man was dragged to court for attacking a reveller with a machete after his request for opaque beer was turned down.

Kemsey Dhabukani appeared before senior Chipinge magistrate Mr Noah Gwatidzo facing assault charges as defined in Section 89 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody to October 23 for trial. It is alleged that Dhabukani of Mabhiza Village under Chief Musikavanhu’s area, Chisumabanje, attacked Gift Gapare with a machete after he had turned down his request for beer.

The court heard that on October 6 at around 8pm, Gapare met Dhabukani at Mabhiza Bottle Store in Chisumbanje where he was drinking beer. The accused demanded beer from Gapare who turned down his request.

This did not go down well with Dhabukani who grabbed a machete from his yellow satchel and attacked Gapare. While Gapare was down, writhing in pain, Dhabukani tried to strike him again, but he missed. Gapare managed to flee from the scene.

Gapare sustained serious injuries and was admitted at St Peter’s Mission Hospital. Dhabukani was arrested the following day after the matter was reported to the police. The machete used in the attack was recovered. Mr Regis Mawawire prosecuted.
