A ZIMUNYA man was last week arrested for allegedly raping his teenage niece.Ishamael Nyakata (45) was not asked to plead to rape when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura on Monday.Prosecuting was Mr Fletcher Karombe.
Nyakata was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
It was alleged that sometime last month at Chiwandamudanda Village under Chief Zimunya, Nyakata forced himself on the 14-year-old teenager.
Said Mr Karombe: “The minor had visited her aunt’s homestead when Nyakata waylaid and raped her. During the act, he directed another child to go on the lookout outside the hut and check if people were coming.”
After committing the crime, he threatened the girl with death if she divulged the incident to anyone.
In fear of the death threats, the teenager is alleged to have lied to her mother that Nyakata had tried to rape her, but failed and the case was solved by her aunt amicably.
She, however, revealed the case to her teacher in school.
The matter was reported to the police leading to Nyakata’s arrest. The complainant was medically examined and it was proved that she was abused.
