MUTARE table tennis junior player Trust Madoro’s star continues to rise with the nine-year-old set to represent Manicaland at the Mash East table tennis national tournament tomorrow (Saturday) at Winwood College in Ruwa.

Madoro had a brilliant outing at the just ended Shumbas sports gala as he claimed the boys’ Under 10 and 12 titles last Saturday.

He is the country’s top seed in the Under-10 category and is ranked seventh in the Under-12 category.

Madoro said he is hoping to continue with the good form in the Mash East tournament.

He also said he is it is not going to be a stroll in the park.

“It is a very important tournament to me. I know it is not going to be easy to win but I have confidence that I will make it. Last weekend, I won two gold medals which is an indication that I am not just going there to add up numbers but to compete. Being the country’s and provincial top player gives me confidence,” he said.

His coach and father Kudakwashe Madoro was full of praise for the upcoming player.

He said he played according to instructions.

“I am very happy with my son’s achievements. I introduced him to the game when he was very young and he has grown up to be the national champion. It is an honour to me as a father and coach.

“The journey to the top has not been easy. I have to provide him with transport, food, accommodation, affiliation fee, sporting attire and equipment every time he goes for tournaments,” he said.

Madoro, who has proved that he is the next big thing in table tennis, has won several accolades and earlier on this month, he won a gold medal at the Prince Edward High School Table Tennis Open Tournament.
