MANICALAND has unanimously endorsed Central Committee member, Cde  Mike ‘Flerimo’ Madiro as their new chairman.

Cde Madiro has been chairman before he was fired and replaced by Ambassador John Mvundura who was also shown the exit door for his association with the Dr Joice Mujuru cabal. Chimanimani East legislator, Dr Samuel Undenge, was acting chairman, but failed to get support from the majority of the party membership in the province. He had a stormy term characterised by a series of votes of no confidence until his subsequent dismissal from the party by the Central Committee last Sunday.

Speaking at the extraordinary provincial co-ordination committee meeting held at Mutare Polytechnic last Friday, war veteran and Buhera South Member of National Assembly, Cde Joseph Chinotimba, said it was high time that the province had the people’s choice as the provincial chairman.

“It is painful to note that we have gone for almost five years without a substantive chairman. The current chairman was imposed on us and we want to move forward as a united province. We want a people’s choice as the provincial chairman.

“We cannot go into next year’s elections without a substantive chairman. We should elect a new chairman now. I propose Cde Madiro (Mike) as the candidate for the chairman’s post,” said Cde Chinotimba to wild applauses from the membership.

He was seconded by Cdes Gutu and Joshua Sacco. The meeting adopted the resolution. Women’s League’s provincial secretary for production, Cde Eunice Muhiwa also moved a motion to have Cde Estry Mlambo-Madhuku recalled from her position because she was also imposed on them by Mrs Letina Undenge.

“As Women’s League we had our own chairperson, Cde Happiness Nyakuedzwa who was fired on factional lines. Cde Nyakuedzwa was a hardworking and uniting factor and we want her back in her position,” said Cde Muhiwa.

The motion was also unanimously endorsed. The same happened to the youth wing where Cde Tawanda Mukodza who also bounced back as the youth provincial chairman after many years in the political wilderness. Cde Mukodza was fired some years back and was replaced by Cde Kelvin Manyengavana before the latter was booted out and replaced by Cde Mubuso Chinguno recently suspended from the party.

Addressing the meeting, Cde Madiro, said: “We have a constitutional democracy in Zimbabwe and Zanu-PF. If the people have spoken whom am I to go against their wishes. I did not come to this meeting expecting to be re-elected as the chairman. We want a co-ordinated Zanu-PF in Manicaland. We should all work hard to mobilise the electorate for next year’s harmonised elections.”
