SUNGURA ace, Alick Macheso tomorrow (Saturday) returns to The Platinum, formerly Pick and Save, for yet another date with his legion of fans in Mutare in a potentially explosive gig.The talented bassist will be accompanied by a star-studied Orchestra Mberikwazvo that includes prodigal sons, Noel Nyazanda, Obert Gomba and Jonasi Kasamba who were for more than a century been the group’s vital cogs before they jumped ship and formed their own outfit, Extra Kwazvose.
The experienced bandsmen who are now back at the sungura outfit are expected to shine and add splendour. Macheso, in an interview, said they were ready to put up a well-choreographed and more polished performance.
He said the group appreciates their fans in the eastern border city for their continued support.
“We will take the opportunity to thank our beloved fans in Mutare for their support and encouragement. Their support especially after the release of our new album, Tsoka dzerwendo has been overwhelming. It is high time we should appreciate them by giving our all best this weekend. The boys are ready. They will dish out undiluted fun for the whole night,” said Alick speaking through his manager, Lucky Macheso.
The show starts at 8pm.
Besides belting out tracks from his recently released hot album, Tsoka Dzerwendo such as Gungwa, Mude Mude and Wandirangaridza, the shrewd bassist is expected to belt out yesteryear hits that made him a household name such as Mundikumbuke, Shedia, Pakutema Munda, Sarah and the award-winning Tafadzwa Nyarara.
The major highlight on Macheso’s last performance at the joint, on June 3 was when the talented lyricist was overwhelmed by emotions and temporarily stopped performing the gem, Baba off his new album as broke down into tears.
He later pulled himself up and put up a sterling performance before a bumper crowd.
