MUTARE-BASED traditional dance ensemble, Manicaland Association Chartered Carrier of Artistes (Macca) proved critics wrong after they out-danced nine other groups to clinch this year’s Chibuku Neshamwari traditional dance provincial finals held last Saturday at Dzonzayi Complex in Chipinge.
They walked away with $300, while second-placed Maungwe traditional group and Dhumatasangana who were third received $200 and $150 respectively.
Macca will battle for supremacy at national level when they face other provincial finalists at White City Stadium in Bulawayo on August 5.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe acting provincial manager for Manicaland, Alexander Tunzi, said intrigue, anxiety and surprises characterised the event.
“The level of competition was impressive. It was a fair competition. It is actually getting more competitive with each edition and we are happy with the response we received from the Chipinge community.
“We like to wish Macca the best as they prepare to go and face other provincial finalists at the national finals in Bulawayo next month. Their Muchongoyo dance antics were next to none. They were impressive,” he said.
Macca is led by dynamic artiste, Joe Bhasera, who also leads another musical group, Talent Falls.
Interestingly, Talent Falls did Manicaland province proud after they came out second at the 2015 Chibuku Road to Fame national finals held at Glamis arena in Harare.
Last year, Redwing Mine’s Ben Arinoti won the provincial finals held in Rusape before the 18-member group went on to win the national finals held at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.
