A CHIPINGE man (26) was recently arrested for stealing 36kgs of Macadamia nuts worth $92 from Enhoek Estate.

Hamson Makusha of Makwaha Village appeared before senior Chipinge magistrate, Mr Noah Gwatidzo facing theft charges on Monday. He pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to next Tuesday waiting sentence.

The State led by Mr Gift Bikita said on May 27 at around 2am, Makusha and other unknown accused persons went to Orchard 14 of Enhoek Estate, Chipinge and stole Macadamia nuts. They were spotted stealing the nuts by security guards. “Clemence Manjokoto and other security guards ordered the accused persons to stop, but they ran away in different directions.

“The security guards gave chase and managed to arrest Makusha who had climbed up a tree. The guards recovered two bags containing some Macadamia nuts which were left by the accused persons while they were running away.“On May 28, the recovered Macadamia nuts were weighed at Chipinge Zimpost in the presence of Makusha and weighed 36kgs.The value of the stolen nuts is $92.50 and all was recovered,” said Mr Bikita.
