Leonard Zhakata brings game changer to Mutare

GIFTED lyricist and talented musician Leonard Zhakata who is preparing to release a new album next month, will this weekend descend on Mutare to give his fans a feel of the new songs carried on the yet-to-be christened project.

The wordsmith backed by Zimbabwe All Stars will perform at Club Mandisa tomorrow (Saturday). Zhakata boasts of a rich discography that dates back to the year 1994 when he released an all time smash hit titled Mugove off the album Maruva enyika.

Ndingaite Sei?, Pakuyambuka, Vagoni vebasa, Mandishorei are some of the musician’s successful albums. He is expected to belt out a blend of old and new tracks such as Madam Boss, which features dendera king Sulumani Chimbetu and Progress Chipfumo, Mubikira, Kingdom yevaviri, Nhamodzenyika, Gomba remarara, Batai manzwi as well as Game changer, a song which will be carried on the new album.

“The album will carry 13 tracks. We have been the song titled Game changer during live shows and we are overwhelmed by the response we have received from our countrywide. The album is almost complete although we are still working on some of the songs. This weekend’s show promises to be one of the best since we last performed there more than a year ago. We are ready to put up a scintillating gig,” said Leonard’s manager, Ben Zhakata.

Zim All Stars now comprise Antonio Bizeki (lead guitarist), Soul Zinzonda (rhythm guitar), Arnold Muchemwa (keyboard) and drummer Taurai Munyanyi. Bizeki is Zhakata’s longest serving band member and Zhakata’s right hand man. He has been in the band for more than 20 years.

Show promoter, Boniface Nyamanhindi said they were elated to host the social commentator for the first time. He will be backed by resident dance group Mandisa Queens and Kings and Harare-based pole dancers.
