Kukura Kurerwa Bus Company is in trouble with the law after one of its buses entered into the protected Chiadzwa diamond area without authorisation.

The company which was being represented by its human resources manager, Insurance Dandara, was recently hauled before the courts on allegations of contravening Section 4 (2) (b) of the Protected Places and Areas Act Chapter 11:12 which states that no person shall be in a protected area without permission issued by authority.

Mutare magistrate Mr Innocent Bepura convicted the company on its own guilty plea and slapped it with a $100 fine. Mr Karombe prosecuted.

“On April 17, Dandara ordered a bus (ADS 1343) being driven by Jackson Chaterera to transport passengers from Mutare to Muchena in the Chiadzwa area,” said Mr Karombe. The bus was stopped by police officers who were on patrol at around 4pm at Sithole Business Centre after entering the protected area.

The patrol details noted that the bus had no relevant papers and authorisation permitting it to enter the protected area.

In his mitigation, Dandara told the court that he did not known that the area was protected and that he had to seek authority before entering the Chiadzwa area.

“Your Worship, we were hired by the local headman. He just instructed us to come and pick some people. He never told us that the area is restricted so we acted out of ignorance,” he said.
