FORMER Fifa panel referee and Zifa vice-president Kenny Marange (pictured right) has bounced back in mainstream football officiating after his recent appointment as the Zimbabwe Referees Committee provincial instructor for Manicaland, Post Sport has learnt.

Marange was kept out of football related activities since 2011 after a purge within domestic football fraternity saw a number of players and officials being implicated in the Asiagate scam but later let most of them off the hook following investigations and subsequent hearings by the retired judge Ibrahim’s Committee. The former top referee was suspended on September, 9 2011.

Although Marange was officially cleared of any wrongdoing in 2015, his return to football officiating, either as a referees’ commissioner or instructor, was somehow being delayed. However, the well travelled former Fifa panel referee, who confirmed that he has since been appointed Manicaland instructor after receiving the confirmation letter last week, told this newspaper that he now focused on developing the standards of match officiating in the province as well as well as the country at large.

The Mutare based former referee said he is at the disposal of prospective and active referees for technical assistance.

“I am happy that I have finally been notified of my appointment as an instructor for Manicaland. This is something that I have been waiting for, for a long time. I feel relieved to be back in mainstream football officiating and my only aim is to impart the knowledge that I have to youngsters in the field of refereeing. I will not stoop so low to dwell on the past but instead focus on the future and what it hold for us a football playing nation,” said Marange.
