JUNIOR legislator for Musikavanhu Constituency, Shingirirayi Khumbula, is helping the needy as well as spearheading income generating projects in the sprawling constituency which stretches from Mariya near the border with Mozambique to Chibuwe.

He is a student at Chibuwe High School.

His father, Mr Wilson Tarugarira Khumbula, is a former MP for Chipinge South.

Since becoming a Junior Member of National Assembly for Musikavanhu, Khumbula who is also Deputy Minister of Sport and Recreation has been working tirelessly to support the needy in the area.

“I donated groceries to volunteers who helped in the rehabilitating of Dakate Bridge. I donated a food hamper to Mbuya Mukhabo Muzhambi, an 85-year-old widow. In addition to that, I make it a point that I visit the sick regularly,’’ he said.

Khumbula is doing English Literature, Divinity and History at ‘A’ Level. He hopes to be a top notch lawyer one day.

‘’I believe that I will be a lawyer one day. Chibuwe High School teachers have the students’ future in their hands and it is my fervent belief that I will do extremely well,’’ he said.

Nevertheless, the junior MP is appalled by the sight of old people who throng Chibuwe High School dining area in the afternoon and evening eating sessions.

‘’Every day I see old members of the society coming in droves to the dining hall to eat crumbs or leftovers. To that end, I appeal to relevant authorities to prioritise the old in food distribution for these people to get a pension in their life time,’’ he said.

The young legislator has a vision for the constituency.

‘’I have a dream just like Martin Luther King Junior. I dream of a Musikavanhu constituency that is food self-sufficient due to the sprouting of irrigation schemes. I hope all schools will be electrified and e-learning is found all over the schools.’’

Chibuwe High School head, Mr Needmore Maposa, applauded the young legislator and said: “He is a brilliant young man with a bright future. However, he must remain humble and prayerful.’’
