It’s truly game on!

The ManicaPost

ESTEEMED followers of the game of football, thank you for finding time for interaction.

The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season is kicking on, with the second half of the campaign setting in and with it comes the rigours of seeing out the race fruitfully.

Therefore, the heat has just been turned on with this turn where virtually every club is now required to pull their whole weight.

And as sure as day follows night, one winner will walk to the podium as the champion, while others will hang their heads, carrying long faces, and get demoted to the unfashionable world of Division One football.

So, as Yours Truly signs off each instalment in this space, it is truly game on.

And the teams are playing on.

But as the fight for the coveted championship hots up, who will do just enough to drag themselves over the line and be crowned champions? Do title-chasing and pacesetters, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Chicken Inn, Dynamos and FC Platinum have enough steam to last the distance? On current form, these four are enjoying a fine run and appear on top of their game.

Having hurled themselves from the ignominy of a sluggish start and thrusting the blue locomotive back into contention, will the Glamour Boys – the country’s most followed team – keep their foot on the pedal?

CAPS United, who have struggled for positive results and with precious little to show for their games-in-hand, are eager to claw their way out of the woods and gain lost ground on their seemingly faltering title defence attempt. The win against FC Platinum is a big boost

Highlanders are also still in with a shout and remain within touching distance of the leading pack.

Are Black Rhinos sliding into their “right place” following an impressive start to the marathon during which a spirited sprint once took them to the top of the table?

Will basement clubs, Tsholotsho and Bantu Rovers, pull off a spectacular feat and steer to safety?

With less than 14 games remaining for most of the teams, there is still room for some more twists, turns, joy and agony among the contenders with each round of matches as the league meanders towards the business end.

With several clubs having added some players to their squads just to have that strength in depth, it just goes to show how much they are getting all geared up.

While some are in the drop zone’s red, others are slugging it out to preserve their Premiership status. Yet those in the safer reaches are toiling just so to keep afloat.

And who, among the four promoted teams, will stay up?

It’s Game On, Play On!
