It’s ‘back to school’ for clubs

The ManicaPost

ESTEEMED followers of the game of football, thank you for finding time for interaction.

Schoolwear and stationery shopping. Uniform put on. Satchel strapped on the shoulder or worn on the back; or a clutch on a stack of books. Excited chatter. Then routine stomps and shuttles. It is another year; a new term and “back to school” for pupils.

Coincidentally, football clubs are also kick-starting their off-season preps; a fresh campaign is looming on the horizon.

As do pupils move schools, players and coaches also get to change clubs. Both seek to tick the right boxes on their wish-lists and the motivating factor is to improve on their grades at the end of the term.

Departures and arrivals characterise this period. Better opportunities are sought from these movements. Brighter prospects hold the allure.

Already, there has been a lot of movement on the scene. Champions FC Platinum have been busy bolstering their squad eyeing both a title defence and a prolonged run in the Caf Champions League. A shake-up in the technical departments of Highlanders and Chicken Inn wants the throne thrown back to Bulawayo. There has been activity at virtually half of the League’s composition, including at clubs like Dynamos, CAPS United, ZPC Kariba, How Mine, Black Rhinos and Bulawayo City.

Even in the lower leagues of Division One such sides as Harare City, Hwange and Tsholotsho are busy with corrections and writing remedial work to ensure their promotion back into the top-tier league among the big boys.  Even our own Manica Diamonds are already getting down on the desk to studiously study for flying colours in order to graduate into the elite Premiership.

And time to sit for tests shall come for all.

Lest we disrupt the serious lessons being taken during this ‘back to school’ period, Friday Football Echoes pen off here.

All the best in the eventual exams . . .

It’s Game On, Play On!

Feedback:

Dynamos are the biggest team in the land. It is amazing that their financial status is bad. Senior and experienced players are owed varying outstanding amounts. I would like to believe the executive is sweeping a lot of issues under the carpet. Financial issues need transparency. I urge club president Keni Mubaiwa to emulate his CAPS United counterpart who is open to the club and tells them the truth. Being quiet raises a lot of speculation. Dynamos also need to find other ways of raising money. Highlanders, in partnership with a local company, are selling maize meal. – Tawanda Mhlanga, Dangamvura.
