MUTARE Central House of Assembly independent candidate Mr George Mundembe believes that his deeper understanding of the issues affecting the electorate in the eastern border city as well as his strong sense of belonging will give him an added advantage in the forthcoming election.

Zimbabwe goes to the polls on July 30 and Mr Mundembe will battle it out for the Mutare Central parliamentary seat against 10 other candidates that include Nancy Saungweme of Zanu PF, Patrick Chitaka (Independent), Emmanuel Mauya (National Constitutional Assembly), the incumbent Innocent Tinashe Gonese (MDC Alliance), Apross Mushunje (Zimbabwe Partnership for Prosperity), Musiiwa Mutasa (Zimbabwe Democratic Union), Allan Vengai Porunobva (Coalition of Democrats), Marvin Rumhungwa (MDC-T), Brian Tendai Samupindi (People’s Rainbow Coalition) and Zimbudzi Nathan (FreeZim Congress Party).

“I was born and raised in Mutare, Devonshire to be particular and this is the reason they call me ‘Muborn’. I know this area like the back of my hand. I think my deeper understanding of the issues affecting the electorate in Mutare Central as well as my strong sense of belonging will give me an added advantage in this election.

“I have a history that stretches back to my ancestors who lived in this area before they were moved to Dora, a few kilometres away. That is the reason we have a section of Sakubva named after our family. I know what the people of Mutare Central want and I can articulate that better than any of the candidates I am competing against in this election,” said Mr Mundembe.

“I think it is pleasing to note that the environment has been conducive for us to go about our campaigns with disturbances or violence as has been the case in recent elections.

“The playing field has never been so fair and balanced like it is this year. We have to build on this achievement as a country to come up with ideas that will now change our economy for the better,” said Mr Mundembe.

He pledged to promote the value of transparency if given the mandate to represent Mutare Central in Parliament.

“Wherever I have worked I have tried my best to create a conducive working environment by promoting transparency. I turned around the fortunes of Pungwe Breweries and that could not have been achieved if there was no transparency in my operations.

“Therefore this is the same approach that I intend to discharge my duties as MP especially when it comes to the management and disbursement of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF),” he said.

Mr Mundembe said he has not seen how the CDF has been used for more than a decade.
