A 56-YEAR-OLD Mutare man was on Monday fined $100 for assaulting and biting his wife, leaving her with a deep cut on her chin following a misunderstanding. Albert Myambo of Chatizamakumbo Village, Dora-pindo was facing domestic violence charges when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chigodora. He pleaded guilty. Mrs Chigodora fined him $100 or 30 days imprisonment.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted. The court heard that on August 6 at around 9.30pm, Myambo came to his house while drunk and had a misunderstanding with his wife.

“Upon arrival, he knocked the door since his wife, Margret Hamili was already asleep. Hamili opened the door, but Myambo ordered her to leave the house, saying that he wanted his girlfriend to move in. An altercation ensued between the two. Myambo tried to break the door, intending to force Hamili out, but he fell down.

“He woke up and slapped Hamili on her face. He went on to grab her by the waist and she fell down. Myambo further bit Hamili on her chin and she sustained a deep cut,” said Mr Karombe. In defence, Myambo told the court that he bit Hamili because she was grabbing his private parts, so he was trying to free himself.
